The current AP crisis points to the need for MFIs to diversify their risks by moving from a single product (micro-credit) based approach to providing multiple services. In the context of microfinance, the present unfulfilled client need largely pertains to savings. This paper provides information on the savings products available currently in India and attempts to provide an objective review of the different options by comparative analysis and by listing out the pros and cons of each. It also looks at building a framework for identifying suitable savings options that MFIs can provide to their clients.
